Moonstone are among the most popular and desired gemstones in the world. They have been prized for centuries for their beauty and unique properties. It is a variety of feldspar, a group of minerals that also includes labradorite and amazonite. It typically has a translucent white body color with a shimmery or pearly sheen. This sheen is caused by light reflecting off of inclusions within the stone. The most prized moonstones exhibit a blue sheen, caused by light reflecting off of tiny inclusions of hematite. It is typically cut into cabochons, which are round or oval-shaped gems with a flat back and a domed top. It can also be cut into different shapes, such as hearts, ovals, and triangles.
